Halfway Through: 30 Days of Wellness at Revive Wellness Center at Langosta Beach Club
I am halfway through my 30 days at Revive Wellness Center at Langosta Beach Club. I have practiced yoga daily, and experienced some interesting new classes and services.

On the Road to Achieving My Goals through Yoga and Surfset Fitness
At the outset of the month, I laid out my goals for all to read. Here is how I’m doing as I work towards them:
Yoga pose goal: I want to do a classical yoga headstand in the middle of the room, without the support of the wall.
I did it! I had someone spotting me though, and conquering the fear that I will fall over is part of this goal. I would like to achieve this headstand on my own.
Yoga principles goal: I want to focus on two yoga principles this month, practice and non-attachment.
No problem with practice. I have practiced yoga almost daily. As far as non-attachment goes, that is harder. I am going to miss my Tamarindo lifestyle and Tamarindo crew when I go back to Canada at the end of the month. They are more difficult to “non-attach” myself from than the physical stuff I might leave behind - yes, I will be back, yet I will still miss all things Tamarindo while I’m gone.
Core strength goal: A two-year-old running overuse injury has been nagging at my lower back. It is almost certainly caused by weak and imbalanced core muscles. Working hard on those wobbly but fun Surfset boards, will certainly help me to strengthen the essential muscles that support my back, and I hope reduce the discomfort.
My core muscles are getting stronger as a result of yoga practice and Surfset Fitness, but the lower back pain still comes and goes. I suppose I can’t expect two weeks will fix things.
Sport specific goal: I want to pop up fast on a surfboard once in my life. It would be nice if I were more than 10 feet from the shore before I got to ride the (remainder of the) wave.
Waiting a little while longer to test this one.
New things I have tried at Revive Wellness Center at LBC this month
Surfset Fitness: Though it may take you a while to get used to the feeling of wobbling on a surfboard-shaped structure balanced on inflated rubber balls just over a foot off the ground, you will. And eventually you will get comfortable, start to have fun, and increase your functional fitness. That means all those muscles that stabilize you as you move throughout your daily activities, and even during sports, will get stronger.
Though I can’t vouch for it firsthand, I overheard one twenty-something surfer say that after only a few sessions of Surfset, he felt more stable on his surfboard in the water.
Reiki: After learning that I had back pain, Jackie invited me for a Reiki treatment in the studio. I have never tried this therapy and gratefully accepted. We started the treatment with some restorative yoga poses. We then moved to the Reiki, which I found relaxing, and strangely energizing and rejuvenating.
If you are not familiar with the ancient practice of Reiki, visit the Revive Wellness center at LBC website. And ask Jackie about her introduction to Reiki. It’s an interesting story.
You will still have to stay tuned to find out the final results of my 30 days of fitness at Revive Wellness Center at Langosta Beach Club. I look forward to sharing them with you in this space in just a couple of weeks.
